a friend’s niece was recently married. On their wedding day, the Groom presented the following letter, handwritten, to his Bride. I removed the names, but not because I thought it should be kept secret – I did it only because I don’t know these people directly. The groom is definitely showing his character through his words – without a doubt, I think this guy is a keeper:
My dear sweet —–,
Today is the day! I can’t believe we’re finally here; indeed, the engagement period has gone by more quickly than I thought it would. Although some family and friends could not make it, my spirit is not dampened – not at all! Having everyone present at the rehearsal dinner, along with seeing your joyful demeanor, got me so excited for our actual wedding. I know that our love will be complete and last long after today. I will love you each day for the rest of our lives; our children will bless our lives as we watch them play and respect each other, as we teach them to make each day a meaningful act of service, as we teach them to not live for themselves, as we teach them to appreciate God’s glory and creation. Today my promise to you – our mutual promise – will be publicly acknowledged – but in my heart, the first day I met you in person was the beginning of a lifetime commitment. As we grow old, our love will continue to grow in depth and intensity – I promise to always treat you in such a way that shows this commitment. I thank God for you, today and all days. You are, coupled with our Savior, my everything.
Love —–
